A Rare March Snow

Was it just a few days ago that I wrote my "Come On, Spring" post? It was 70 on Friday. This morning we woke up to a beautiful, fluffy, three-inch snowfall.

School is closed, although I will probably go in and work a few hours so I don't have to use any of my just-earned leave. Our spring break is now two days shorter, since those will be make-up days for students.

Charlie filled the feeders yesterday, and the birds are enjoying the good groceries. Although March snows are very infrequent here in central North Carolina, I remember one year that it snowed hard on my mother's birthday, March 3. We had to settle for a birthday phone call instead of visit since the roads were horrible. But how I wish I could still call her and wish her happy birthday tomorrow. We lost my mother back in 1984.

My husband's birthday is coming up later in March- the big six-oh. We are planning a beach trip to Sunset Beach, North Carolina. I certainly hope that the weather is warmer by March 19! Well, it is supposed to be in the 70's here by Friday. And it was 70 last Friday, as well, just three days ago.

I have been going through many years' worth of photo albums for a special birthday project for my husband. What memories they have evoked! Speaking of beach trips, here is one about thirty-five years and twenty pounds ago:

I remember Charlie waiting impatiently to leave for the beach trip as I finished sewing this bikini in our little one-bedroom apartment. I think this is the last swimsuit I sewed except for flowery "jams" for the boys back when they were popular. If I could still wear a bikini, I would gladly sew another one!
