Lovely Wedding Weekend

We're back from the beach, where we enjoyed a delightful weekend with family and friends at Maribeth and John's wedding.  They were married at the yard of their home on the Intercoastal Waterway.  Our little granddaughter Charlotte did a great job as one of the flower girls!

We also enjoyed a little beach time and an extra night with good friends Marcia and Gerry.  We had never been to their lovely new home in Wilmington.  Old friends are the best friends!

Not a Leg to Stand On

July is nearly over- unbelievable!  I do not have much to show for this summer as far as sewing or art projects.  I've had some medical issues, the worst of which is a broken bone in my right leg.  I did not fall or anything, but both of my legs started bothering me at the beach when we were walking on the long boardwalk.  I finally got to see my orthopedic foot specialist, who diagnosed a displaced fracture of the fibula.  I was walking around on it for a month, so he thinks it may heal on its own with just a lace-up ankle brace.  The other ankle is the one that has bothered me most for years, so I guess I am falling apart.

I have been looking at ideas for a baby quilt for my new granddaughter, due in September.  The nursery theme is going to be garden...think flowers, birds, butterflies, and topiary.  Here is one I made a few years ago for a Capital Quilters Guild challenge.

The color scheme is not too far off from Layla's nursery palette, with pastels mixed with a few brights.

Baby's mama Emily liked this pattern that I found on Pinterest, so I have been making drawings for something along that line.  I'll probably use the light green for the border.

I also have done a few more Bible art journaling pages.

Joshua 15:16-19

Matthew 2:9-11

John 10:11-14
This weekend we are going back to Carolina Beach for a special family wedding.  My daughter-in-law's mother is marrying a wonderful man.  They live near Raleigh, but have been renovating a house on the Intercoastal Waterway where we stayed with the family last April.  Our little granddaughter will be a flower girl.  I can't wait to get back down there!  I need to get a pedicure...or should I bother  when my toes will be peeking out from this black lace-up brace?

Cooling Off on the Parkway

While my son's family was here this week, we spent a day exploring the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway in Northwestern North Carolina. It is a scenic drive through the mountains, with lots of scenic overlooks and hiking trails.

One of the stops in Doughton Park is Brinegar's cabin.  I had not been there in years.  It happened that the cabin was in the process of getting a new cedar shake roof.  They were actually cutting the shingles from a pile of cedar.

The drone came along for the ride, and my husband sent it off to explore the mountains at several stops along the way.

We had a line of storms come over the mountains and have had some spectacular rains during our week up here.  But mostly it has been beautiful and delightfully cool.  Temperature forecast today:  79.  In Raleigh:  90.  Much better!

Baby Quilt Fabrics for Layla

We have a new granddaughter arriving soon...and her mama and other grandmother (the interior designer) have selected fabrics for her nursery.  I now have a package of fabrics to use in designing and making a quilt for little Layla!

Looks like a lovely garden theme in soft pastel colors.  I will use these plus, hopefully, lots more that I pull from my stash.  Butterflies, birds, flowers...some of my favorite things!

Not sure it will be finished by her arrival around September 8, but I am glad to know the theme and color palette so I can get started!

This little one is looking forward to being a big sister!

Happy Birthday, America!

It's an old-fashioned family Fourth of July here at our North Carolina mountain home.

We spend lots of time at the creek.

We had a homemade fireworks show last night.

We also went to the Christmas in July festival in West Jefferson on Saturday.  This area grows a large supply of America's Christmas trees.

And the drone flew over and captured some of the family, friends, and dogs who were here yesterday.

God bless America!
