"Snowball" Charity Quilt

Yesterday, I just had time to quilt one little charity quilt for my guild's Quilts on Wheels program for rest home residents. Last weekend my grandson asked me, "What is that black thing in your hair, Gigi?" I started batting and shaking my head, thinking that some creature was lodged in there. Turns out he was looking at my "roots." Made a quick appointment at the hair salon and got that fixed!

This quilt is the traditional "snowball" pattern, perfectly pieced by an anonymous quilter who turned it in at a Capital Quilters' Guild meeting. The white and tan color scheme is very calming, but if you desire a jolt of cheerful bright color, the back is a red floral print.
I felt like doing feathers again, but this time chose the "Art Nouveau" feather design from the book No Boundaries by Nichole Webb and Jamie Wallen. Well, my version of them anyway. This is a very forgiving feather that has a little indentation in the "hump" which makes it look like foliage.
I love the curvy quilting over the straight-sided edges of the snowball.
I had a beautiful but unwanted visitor in my screen porch yesterday. We have had these red-bellied woodpeckers in our yard ever since we moved here fifteen years ago. I can recognize their call in the woods before they fly to the feeder. You really do not want a frightened woodpecker trying to peck his way out of your screen porch!

He is one of the larger woodpeckers, compared to the downy and hairy woodpeckers. We have a long-handled net that we use when hummingbirds come in our garage and can't figure out how to get out the garage doors. I got it out to try to capture this guy, but all I had to do was wave it around and he found his way out the door.

Your quilting is beautiful. I love the art noveaux feathers, must try them. I'm happy you got your unwanted visitor out :)
