Whacky Ladies Quilt Bee

I am really behind in my quilt-related posts!  The Whacky Ladies met in Franklinton on March 7.  Here is some of the Show-and-Tell that we enjoyed.

This large sampler quilt is by Lori Mann.  It's not quilted yet, actually, but isn't it pretty?

Lori also made a tote bag from a Cathedral Window quilt remnant that someone gave her.

Mary had several beautiful items of show-and-tell.  First up was this star quilt made from a pattern.

Mary likes to make quilts from large pieces of beautiful fabric to which she adds a border.

She also pieced this floral quilt.

Finally, she brought us a pieced top to see if we liked her sashing fabric.

We did!

Sharon had several projects to show.  One was a St. Patrick's Day wall quilt that was not quite finished in time for our March quilt bee.

We all had purse envy for the great-looking bag that Sharon made.

The afternoon before the meeting, I took Kasey for a walk along a new section of greenway in Wake Forest that connects with the Neuse River Trail.  There is a huge pedestrian bridge over the water.

Standing on the bride affords some great views of the river.

I love seeing the reflections in the water.

I thought that we might run across some deer in this woodsy natural area.  Nada...but I found out why on the way home.

All the deer had gone for brunch at this grassy field right next to the Credit Union on Rogers Road!

Whacky Ladies Bee Meeting

I have missed several recent meetings of my local quilt bee, The Whacky Ladies, so I was glad to be able to attend last Thursday night.  We met at Mary's house, which is only a couple of miles from my house.

Here is some of our Show-and-Tell.

Sharon made this quilt using squares of fabric from a panel, to which she added several borders.

Carolyn has started putting together the large red and white blocks from her Block of the Month project from Wish Upon a Quilt.

She is doing another BOM using black, tan, and gold fabrics in batiks.

Marilyn showed us her festive quilt top in Christmas fabrics and colors.

Mary also had a Christmas quilt, with trees and cardinals.

Since we were at Mary's house, she showed us her "napping quilt."

And here is another Warm Wishes quilt (slightly out of focus, sorry!)

Lori made a purse from her own original pattern.

Here is a pinwheel quilt.  I think it was made by Paula.

And this is Paula holding a Nine-Patch Pizazz quilt, which I think was made by Mary.  I love the rich colors.

I showed my recently returned Round Robin quilt that had been lost for years.  What a surprise when the person who had it found me on Facebook and mailed it to me!

I also showed the Re-Vision quilt from Cyberbee that I was supposed to have finished over a year ago.  The beautiful top was made by Mary Corcoran.  I have chosen a beautiful hand-dye by Ricky Tims to add a final border.

Quilt Bee and Mountain Weekends

Last Thursday, I hosted a second quilt activity at my house.  My local quilt bee got started just as the skies darkened and thunder was rumbling above.  I lit some candles and we had a power flicker, but never lost power.

I only remembered to take one show-and-tell picture.  This stunning log cabin quilt was made by Irene Hardister, who was unable to attend.  She made the top and did all the stitch-in-the-ditch quilting, but she got Donna Sontag to quilt the outer borders for her.  This is the partially completed border that Donna quilted on her computer-guided machine.  Looks great!

We have spent the past two weekends at our cabin in the North Carolina mountains.  It is so much cooler and very relaxing to be in the hills.  It was my nephew's birthday on Saturday, so there were quite a few young people there to help him celebrate.  They brought their babies and their dogs.

Two of these three little girls are my great nieces.  My sister, Katy, got a Little Tykes play set with a couple of slides and tables.  It was so cute to watch the little ones having fun.  This one is my niece Melinda's little girl, Ragen, who is getting way too grown!

My window boxes are doing pretty well, but the deer have discovered that they like red salvia, and have snipped off some from the left side.  I would love to look out a window and see a deer munching on my flowers!

We had some nice rides up to the top of the mountain, which is especially nice at sunset.

I am putting the finishing touches on my art quilt of Maggy treeing the raccoon, and hope to post the final pics in a couple days.

Quilt Bees, Musk Ox, and new Quilty Reading

Here are the Whacky Ladies, my local quilt bee...with one member moving this week to Utah, and one who just joined us last week, and two who were not present. We had a very nice meeting together at Janice's house.

Joanne was giving away or selling almost everything she owned to make the move easier. She gifted me with two most unique skeins of fiber...from Alaskan Musk Ox! That is a first for me.

Today was the Anything Art Bee. Today's topic was Journal Quilts. There was some great eye candy and wonderful quilting. I can't really say that I have ever done Journal Quilts, but I have done a quilted journal or two.

On the way home, I stopped at Barnes and Noble (chain bookstore.) I have been trying to teach myself to play Scrabble, and have been using the online site Lexulous. I have only beaten the computer once, at Untimed Level 1. So, I bought a Scrabble dictionary to start learning some of those obscure words that even the Level 1 computer can spit out faster than I can sort the letters on my tray.

I also had to pick up the newest versions of Quilting Arts gifts,

and Cloth Paper Scissors Studios. Maybe one day I will fix mine up.

And I just got this new needle-felting book, that had been back-ordered from B&N.

I loved Margo's first book, and made a brooch and a purse from the directions. This one has more projects that involve wet felting. You have to wrap wet wool fibers around a pool noodle and roll them, then throw them in the sink about a hundred times. Not so sure I will be doing that. But never say never...

Busy Days

Lots going on the last few days! First, Thursday night was Quilt Bee night at Cathie's. She outdoes herself with lovely meals instead of just dessert. What a nice evening!

One of my friends brought a lovely quilt top that she appliqued, and wanted me to quilt it for her. Alas, the backing was too small. She took it back home to add some strips.

When I got home on Thursday night, my son and grandson Avery had arrived from South Carolina for the weekend. As you can imagine, I spent every spare minute being Gigi, the grandma name for me that he made up. Bryson had two friends from Virginia also spend the weekend, and they stayed gone most of the time playing golf and frisbee golf. Our son Dave joined them on Friday night, so we had a house full of men. I felt like the homecoming queen! Avery and I went to the park, dug up the weeds out of the flowerbed, and even got the grandpa to walk with us on Saturday and Sunday morning. We walked all through the new roads at the end of the neighborhood. It is very nice back there, but to me there is too much noise from the busy road behind them. Maybe when the houses are built, the noise will be less conspicuous.
This was Avery's face when it was time to leave for home. I probably looked the same. I hated to see them go!
