Turkey Clone

What I did not mention yesterday in my turkey quilt post...is that I actually made twin turkeys! The first one was delivered today (two hours after completion of label and sleeve) to Dave and Emily when I previewed their new home. They are having a few repairs and some painting done, and will move in on Friday. I loved their home and its nice woodsy view.

To make these guys, I loaded both turkeys on the Gammill at the same time and quilted them almost identically.

The clone will be a hospitality gift to Charlie's sister and her family, who will be hosting us for Thanksgiving weekend in Asheville, NC. We will be having dinner at the Grove Park Inn, a wonderful mountain resort. The next day, Lee usually takes me to some wonderful shopping opportunities and art galleries in Asheville, and then we meet the guys downtown at a microbrewery for a sandwich and a refreshing beverage.

And I may have to stop in at Waechter's Silk Shop on Saturday, which is in the neighborhood. Great eye candy!

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Silky New Stuff

Still working on secret stuff...but I thought I would show you some of my recent quilt-related purchases.

I am so lucky that we have a local quilt shop in Wake Forest- Quilts Like Crazy and Knit, Too!-owned by my friend Nancy Pease. My little town is growing, but there are still so many items that require a drive into Raleigh to purchase. Nancy and her daughters have been successfully running this business for years, including their long-arm quilting service. Anyway, I was just getting ready to run errands last Thursday when I got an e-mail about an additional sale on her half-price yarns. I am not a big knitter although I learned how back in the seventies. I am always searching for pretty fibers to use for postcards and art quilts. I got these beauties for sixty percent off!

I mentioned my visit to Waechter's Silk Shop while I was in Asheville over Thanksgiving. Here is the length of fabric I got for fifty percent off- enough for a jacket. And look at these yummy yummy hand-dyed silk ribbons! Even their names are delicious: Mango, Green Apple, Wild Berry. You can purchase these online from their shop.

I hope to make one of these two jackets which are perfect for long-arm quilters to pre-quilt the fabric before assembly. I like both of them!

Recovery Day

It was a bountiful Thanksgiving for my family. Didn't I do a great job carving up the fruit and veggies for the salad course? How about the ice sculpture?

Well, of course, I cannot take credit for these beautiful tables full of culinary creations. We visited my husband's sister and her family in lovely Asheville, North Carolina, and dined at the Grove Park Inn. This renowned resort is just a mile or two away from her home. A delightful afternoon, which included a visit to see the Gingerbread House competition. I will share some of those photos tomorrow. While we were dining, the weather took a plunge from the balmy seventies to the forties. The next day we saw snow flurries!

There are so many unique shops in Asheville. SIL Lee is wonderful about scouting out locations she knows I would like. My two SIL's and my DIL Emily had a ball going to see artsy things. I scooped up a few Christmas gifts to bring home.

My last stop was at the fabulous Waechter's Silk Shop, which is right on the way home, just a couple miles from Lee's house. I stayed for forty-five minutes of fabric petting and getting to know the owners, from whom I have purchased patterns and a few other items in the past. Since I was from out of town, they let me shop the 50% fabrics in the back room which go on sale December 1. I came home with several yards of lovely silk for a quilted jacket, and some hand-dyed silk ribbon that I could not resist. I certainly recommend this shop if you are looking for couture fabric or garment patterns.
