Ashe County Piecemakers' Quilt Fair Part 2

Continuing my report on the Quilt Fair in West Jefferson, NC, last weekend.  First up:  a beautiful original quilt depicting North Carolina scenes and symbols.

Our state flower is the dogwood, and there is an appliqué dogwood wreath surrounding the center map, divided into the mountain, piedmont, and coastal zones.

I like the colors and the curved piecing in the next quilt.

Autumn begins today, and the next quilt reminds me of trees turning gold and yellow in the fall.

I love the bright colors and disappearing circles in the next quilt.

I took close-ups of some of the quilting motifs.  Very pretty!

I loved the next quilt so much, I almost snatched it off the wall.  It is by the same lady who sold me the doll cradle set at the quilt boutique.

The next quilt received an award for best use of color.  I did not quite agree.  It was very striking rand the piecing was beautiful, but the reds, gold and blues were a little too strong for me.

More next time...hope you are enjoying the show!

Ashe County Piecemakers Quilt Fair 2014

I had a very enjoyable day on Friday, visiting the Ashe County Piecemakers' Quilt Fair in Jefferson Station, not far from our mountain cabin.

I have posted previously about the murals painted on buildings in West Jefferson, NC.  The train station images are painted on the wall, and the quilts are hanging from a clothesline in front of the side entrance to the building.

I headed immediately for the Guild boutique, and bought this wonderful doll bed, doll, and quilt for my grand baby for Christmas.

I am not going to attempt to document all the quilts in the show, but will show you some that I particularly admired.

A very pretty Trip Around the World had some embroidered seashells in the center block.

This lovely log cabin star quilt in jewel colors is framed nicely by the Drunkard's Path border.

One of my favorite blocks is Delectable Mountains, here done in rose and green.

There was a very pretty Lone Star quilt in soft shades of purple and aqua.

And another beauty in purple and green.

I have always liked blue and white quilts.  This sampler quilt has a pretty floral border which softens the geometric sashings and squares.  The quilting in the alternate blocks is lovely.

This brightly colored quilt with a yellow patchwork background caught my eye.  The colors were very pleasing.

The next quilt was made from the Block of the Month patterns by Sue Garman for The Quilt Show.

I will have many more photos to show you in future posts.  I also finished quilting a beautiful sampler quilt by my friend Carolyn Ormond.  Still need to tie off about a hundred thread tails from all my starts and stops.  Here is one block. I did "McTavishing" meander around the butterfly.

My Gammill's Next Adventure

When we were trying to sell our house in Wake Forest,  we dismantled my Gammill quilting machine and took it to stay with a foster mother.  We set it up at her house, and we both were able to use it.

Last night we went back and took it down again.  We are taking it to its new home in our mountain cabin.

It is not an easy process, but my husband and son managed to disassemble it in about two hours.

I have a great space for it in the basement of the cabin,  which unfortunately is not yet finished.  We are going to set it up and roll it out of the way as needed.

Meanwhile,  look what happened last weekend!

We had a deck-building party!  Lots of family and friends worked together to put up this large outdoor space.

We even had time for some creek-sitting and Gator rides.

Life is good!
