Trip Around the World

Here is the Trip Around the World Quilt that I finished for my friend Marcia.  She and her husband joined us at our mountain cabin last weekend.

It is so large that my husband and I had to hold it up and take a picture remotely with his iPhone camera.

She was thrilled to have it done.  Her mom made the top before she got ill in her last few years.  We found it in her stash when we were going through her bins of fabric.

The quilting does not show in the top photo, but I did lots of swirls and feathers to soften all the lines and squares.  The photos are from when it was still being quilted on the machine.

We enjoyed a good time in the mountains.  It is getting very pretty up there with the fall foliage.

That's Marcia and I on top of our mountain.

How about this sunset on the way up on Thursday night?  Spectacular!

Tom and Pauline also came back up, and Tom and the guys finished the stone steps from the upper to lower driveways.  Now we need to decide how we will finish the walls.  Probably paint or some fake rock.

It was a relief to get the drain system and retaining wall done before the winter sets in.

Trip Around the World

This weekend I finished quilting a queen-sized Trip Around the World quilt.

Because the quilt top is so linear and features squares, I went with lots of curvy quilting, and some floral shapes to complement the fabrics in the quilt top.

It is only partially quilted in these photos, but is now off the machine and trimmed.  I will do the binding on it as soon as I can, and return it to the daughter of the late quilter, Anne Vernon.  For this quilt's story, please see this previous post.  It only took me four years to get this done!  I feel bad about that, but I know that Anne's family will treasure this beautiful quilt.  The colors really glow.  I am going to get someone to help me hold it up for a picture of the full quilt.

Another Charity Quilt

At our bee meeting last week, Carolyn gave me the top she had completed from one of my friend Marcia's UFO's from her mother's sewing room.  Today I got it quilted on the longarm.  This is going to be a Quilt on Wheels project, to be given to a resident of a rest home by the Capital Quilters Guild.

The blue border fabric was pulled from a box of donated fabric.  It matches perfectly!  I wasn't sure about using it, because it is obviously a polyester.  I was pleasantly surprised that it quilted beautifully, and feels very silky!  The back is the same blue solid fabric.  I hope it won't be slipping off someone's lap when it goes to the rest home!

Since the patchwork was all linear and angular, I did a soft freehand feather meander.  I had Misty Jade thread already loaded from my last project, and two extra bobbins of thread.  I think it looks nice on this quilt.

Here is the quilt from the back.  I love the textured, lacy look

Now I will give it back to Carolyn for her to do the binding.  Nothing like tag-team quilting!

Just got back from picking up my car after over $600 in repairs.   I noticed the air conditioner was not working on one of the very warm days we have had recently, so I got that fixed.  They noticed something else wrong with the axle while they were underneath the car, which I suspect could be from the rear-end accident I was in last year.  Probably no way to get the guy's insurance to pay for it at this late date.  Love my car, hate paying for car repairs!
